Léon goes to Boma

Léon strongly believes that it should invest in projects we can personally check and monitor to make sure that 100% of our money reaches people who need it! That is why in May 2008, Fanny and Vincent both members of Léon, took the trip – obviously at their own cost - to Boma in the Republic Democratic of Congo in order to prospect possible projects. Boma was chosen as Lionel, also member of the association had spent a month there in 2002, teaching in a local University and had identified a potential project to support a local school.

Fanny and Vincent were warmly welcomed by the entire staff of the school as well as by the city's authorities. White men are not seen very often in this region, particularly a mother without her baby ("how can your baby eat if you're not there!" being the main concern) and an architect without his ruler!

The school we visitied explained the project they had in mind and for which they required our financial support; unfortunately, we didn't believe that the vision they had for their school would really and directly benefit the students, therefore we decided to not go further with that particular project.

Nevertheless, and as Africa remains a continent where there are endless opportunities for an association to invest, Fanny and Vincent were able to identify another good opportunity to make a small but meaningful difference for a group of kids. As they were exploring a piece of land in the countryside with the idea of potentially building a school there, they saw some children playing a bit further away. They wanted to get closer but they were told not to! "Why shall we not get closer?” asked Vincent. The only answer was “they are "bewitched kids" and you should be careful!”. That is how the Story of "Léon helps Antoine and his bewitched kids" started!
